It’s happened more times than I care to remember.
A client will come to me and ask for a quote for my services.
I find out exactly what they want, and then I send them my quote.
They think it’s too high, or they don’t think it’s too high but they just can’t afford the cost on their current budget.
They find another designer who charges less, and when they get their final product they’re totally unhappy with the quality, or lack thereof.
They end up coming back to me to redesign the site, and now they’re out of even more money than what I originally quoted them.
My remedy to this unfortunate situation is to offer what I call Milestones Plans (MPs for short).
This is how they work:
With an MP, you don’t have to wait until you’ve paid everything to see progress on your site. With each payment, certain information/features will be added to your site. Once that milestone is met, the work is put on hold until the next payment is made at which time the next milestone is completed until the entire project is done.
There are fees associated with MPs.
MPs can be spread out over 6, 9 or 12 payments. These payments aren’t based on dates. When you make each payment is totally up to you. The sooner you make your payments, the sooner your site will be completed.
A 6-payment MP will incur a 10% fee added to your project cost. For example, based on a quote of $500, your Milestones Payment Fee (MPF) will add $50 to your total project cost. Your first payment would be $95, and then the next 5 payments would be $91 each for a total cost of $550 to complete your project.
A 9-payment MP will incur a 15% fee added to your project cost. Based on a quote of $500, your MPF will add $75 to your total project cost. Your first payment would be $71, and then the next 8 payments would be $63 each for a total cost of $575 to complete your project.
A 12-payment MP will incur a 20% fee added to your project cost. Based on a quote of $500, your MPF will add $100 to your total project cost. All 12 payments would be $50 each for a total cost of $600 to complete your project.
You will know upfront, in our contract, exactly what information/features will be accomplished at each milestone.
Keep in mind that Milestones Plans are simply an option. You don’t have to use this option. You can use the traditional, no-fee-incurring method of “half down/half when done” if that works best for you.
My goal with offering Milestones Plans is to make sure my clients have options and don’t have to go with a mediocre designer/developer because that person charges less. Often, a lower price means you’re going to end up with a low-quality product.
I’d love to design your home on the web. Check out my portfolio to see what I can do.
